‘Run between thousand years of history’ - 30th Egyptian Marathon welcomes athletes in Luxor
Athletes from all over the world took part in the 30th edition of the Egyptian Marathon at the historic temple of Hatshepsut Pharaoh, in Luxor on Friday.
Footage shows marathon runners preparing and running on the 22.289-km route (13,849 miles) through multiple ancient locations such as the temple of Habou and the temple of Amenophis. Athletes could also be seen taking pictures near Egyptian statues with balloons flying in the sky around the track.
Sharing her first experience in the historical site, marathon runner Lauren said: "I feel very grateful and very excited, I have never been to Egypt before and this is bad, that's incredible so far, the site here is beautiful and so much to see, that's amazing."
“Unique experience I have to say because it's really unique to run between thousand of years of history,” another event participant Bella shared.
The Egyptian Marathon has been held regularly over the past 29 years proving to be the oldest ongoing marathon in Africa and the Middle East.
