What could possibly go wrong? Chinese snowboarders take to the slopes in traditional costumes carrying SWORDS
A group of Chinese snowboarders donned traditional 'Hanfu' attire and carried swords onto the slopes of Songhua Lake Ski Resort in Jilin on Tuesday.
Footage shows the group preparing their traditional Hanfu costumes, robes worn by the Han Chinese group. They are seen taking to the slopes and snowboarding, waving their blades.
"We started to ski with Hanfu in 2020," explained Ding Ning. "We have different styles, including Jinyiwei (imperial guards of the Ming Dynasty), immortal heroes, and other classic costumes."
"In this media era, only through these digital platforms, we can show the beauty of our nation. Netizens said it’s so cool and amazing, like people flying with swords,” he continued.
While the team’s videos have caused a sensation on social media, Ding admitted that it can be a painful process.
"The biggest difficulty in skiing with Hanfu is that the clothes are too thin to keep warm," he continued. "This cold is piercing, we use strong willpower to overcome the cold, in order to achieve the best shooting effect."
The style of clothing has changed over the centuries, and become a much sought after look, particularly among young people, in recent years - although using it as skiing attire remains the preserve of the brave few.
