Farmers in Cordoba showed their respect to national football star Lionel Messi by making his giant portrait from corn, as seen on footage filmed on Thursday.

A field of corn planted in the shape of Messi's face was created to honour the player and celebrate Argentina's World Cup victory.

Carlos Fericelli, an agricultural producer who was a part of the project, explained the aims of such an artwork.

"We see Messi as a role model, and there is some common factor with agriculture because in Argentina crazy things are happening, we have passion. We have a passion for football, we have a love for agriculture, and we have love and admiration, and we want to pay homage to Messi," he shared, adding that such an image could last on the field for up to two and a half years.

This is one of many portraits planted to honour Messi and the national team. Argentina beat France in the World Cup final to lift their third trophy, following victories in 1978 and 1986.
