Chief Executive of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) John Lee during a conference held in Hong Kong on Tuesday announced the lifting of most Covid bans, including the free entrance of travellers to the territory without restrictions.

He explained that Hong Kong government will no longer require quarantines of close contacts of those infected with the virus. The vaccine pass will decay, and overseas travellers will not need a PCR test. In addition to this, all social distancing measures were cancelled as well.

"Our society as a whole has built an extensive and a high level barrier of immunity", said Lee.

According to the Chief Executive, the lifting of the restrictions respond to a high vaccination and immunity rate, and the 'sufficient anti/epidemic medications' available in Hong Kong.

The announcement came after the decision of China to ease Covid measures in the last days. As Beijing confirmed on Tuesday, after almost three years of 'zero-Covid' policies, the country will open its borders again to work and study visa holders, or family visits, with no need of quarantines.
