The Ministry of foreign affairs republic of Taiwan held a briefing on Tuesday to update the press on the preparation progress of the Lithuanian Trade Representative Office's grand opening in Taipei.

According to Remus Li-Kuo Chen, the Director General of European Affairs at Taiwan MOFA "Mr Paulius Lukauskas, the first representative of Lithuania in Taiwan, successfully arrived in Taiwan in early September."

"As far as we know, although the office has been rented, the office space-related software and hardware facilities have not yet been completed. I am afraid we will have to wait for the relevant preparatory work to be completed before further public information can be obtained," Chen added.

The move comes as Beijing has downgraded diplomatic ties with Lithuania after Vilnius allowed Taiwan to open its own embassy in the Baltic country.
