
State of Palestine: Ramallah hosts funeral for Al Jazeera reporter killed in West Bank
The state funeral for Al Jazeera journalist Shireen Abu Akleh killed in the West Bank took place in Ramallah on Thursday.
The President of Palestine, Mahmoud Abbas, lead the memorial ceremony that was hosted at the presidential compound and attended by thousands.
The veteran journalist was shot and killed while covering an Israeli raid in the West Bank town of Jenin. Al Jazeera and other two reporters who were with her blamed Israeli forces for the death of Shireen. The Palestinian health ministry said that the journalist was shot in the head when she was wearing her press bulletproof vest.
The Israeli military on Wednesday confirmed is "investigating the event” and initially suggested, “that the journalists were hit by Palestinian gunmen.”
Israel called for a joint investigation with the Palestinian Authority, which Palestinian President Abbas rejected.
