Footage filmed at Hamas’ military training site in northern Gaza Strip on Thursday, shows the filming of 'The Fist of the Free' TV series, which Hamas is producing in response to Israeli series 'Fauda' to present its account of the conflict with Israel.

'Fauda' is an Israeli political television series launched in 2015, its opening ceremony was sponsored by former Prime Minister Ehud Barak. Internationally, the series is streamed by Netflix.

“They [Israelis] are exporting their narrative to the world and convincing the world that they are right and that the Palestinian narrative is wrong. Through this series, we will show the world what is the correct Palestinian narrative,” said actor Basel Shaheen.

Speaking about the challenges facing the work, actor Rashad Abu Sukhaila said "There are several challenges we face, including the usage, sometimes, of live explosives and the lack of use of cinematic tricks. Also, the dangerous locations bordering [Israel] that we film in, these sites expose us to danger, and the Hebrew press has classified us as terrorists."

Three Palestinian writers worked on 'The Fist of the Free,' and were inspired by a story of an intelligence operation carried out by an Israeli special unit in 2018, in Khan Yunis in the southern Gaza Strip. The 2018 operation ended in an armed clash that resulted in the killing of seven Hamas fighters, including a field commander, as well as an Israeli officer.

Hamas established its own institution for drama production in 2007, months after it took control of the Gaza Strip, which has been besieged by Israel ever since.
