Germany: Trier residents leave candles after driver kills at least five
Locals left candles near the city of Trier's main monument Porta Nigra, on Wednesday, after a car drove through a pedestrian zone yesterday, killing at least five people and injuring several.
Police could be seen patrolling the street, while candles were left dotted around the city's old town.
One resident, Ms Thielen, said, "I was speechless, really speechless, I'm so sorry for the murders, I'm still speechless, unbelievable, I can't say much because I'm still shocked."
The suspect Bernd W. is believed to be German and native of Trier. At least five people died, including a baby in the attack while 14 other people were injured.
As of yet, the suspect's motive remains unclear, however investigations are underway. He was reportedly inebriated at the time of the attack. The public prosecutor's office has reported there are indications that the suspect suffers from a possible mental illness.
