Hundreds of anti-lockdown protesters gathered in front of Council of Ministers to decry restrictions issued by the Bulgarian government to curb the spread of the coronavirus, in Sofia, on Wednesday.
Scuffles broke out when demonstrators tried to enter the Council of Ministers.
Protesters were seen holding banners reading 'Give us back the daily bread' and 'We have the human right to work' while chanting slogans such as 'The system is killing us.' The economic effects of the lockdown measures have been felt adversely since March in the country.
The Bulgarian government announced a new lockdown with which schools, gyms and restaurant will be closed until December 21. The restrictions, which will begin on Friday, aim to stop gatherings in public areas in hopes of slowing the further spread of the virus to relieve pressure on the health system.
