Hong Kong: Hundreds rally ahead of 2014's 'Umbrella Movement' trial
Hundreds of protesters gathered outside West Kowloon Law Courts in Hong Kong on Monday, before the trial concerning a 2014 civil disobedience movement started.
Three of the movement's nine key figures Benny Tai Yiu-ting, Chan Kin-man and Chu Yiu-ming were seen among the protesters who called for universal suffrage.
The figures face one count of conspiracy to cause public nuisance, among other charges related to the matter. The trial will last 20 days.
During Occupy Central protest in 2014, also known as the 'Umbrella Movement,' tens of thousands of protesters blocked the streets for around 80 days to demand a 'one man, one vote' system for Hong Kong.
Many of the protesters took umbrellas to shield themselves from police pepper spray, giving the protest its name.
