Syria: Russian sappers clear mines and IEDs from school in Aleppo
A group of Russian sappers performed a mine clearance operation at a school in Aleppo’s Salah al-Din District, Saturday.
According to the commander of the unit, Major Ivan Gromov, "a workshop for manufacturing [improvised] explosive devices" was found in a separate school inspected as part of the same operation.
Speaking from the site, he stated "we found cylinders, a part of which was filled, while they [the militants] did not get a chance to fill the other part. In the rooms there was also ammonium nitrate and kerosene for mixing and additional filling."
The squad of the International Mine Action Centre of the Russian Armed Forces arrived at the Hmeymim airbase in Latakia on December 3. The group reportedly includes specialists who took part in the operation to clear mines from Palmyra.
