UK: ‘Human Swan’ becomes first woman to paraglide the English Channel
Sacha Dench, dubbed the 'Human Swan' landed in Dover on Monday, becoming the first woman ever to cross the English Channel in a motorised paraglider. She set the record as part of an epic journey tracking migrating swans from Artic Russia.
Dench, who followed the migration path of the Berwick Swan from Arctic Russia over 6,500 kilometers (4,038 miles) in ten weeks, called the experience “one of the most exciting journeys of my life with a great team of people.”
The 41-year old described the reception she received in Russia as “so warm,” adding that “even in small communities that have very little, people offered everything - housing, food, warmth and their knowledge, what they knew about swans, what they thought about swans.”
Dench will end her odyssey in Slimbridge, Gloucestershire, where she is expected to arrive by December 12.
