USA: Jill Stein says arrest warrant is "misdirected"

Green Party presidential candidate Jill Stein gave a press conference in Chicago, Illinois on Friday where she spoke about her involvement in the protest to stop the construction of a pipeline in North Dakota.

The presidential candidate stated that whilst she "didn't go there intending to engage in civil disobedience" she was moved by the people of the Rock Sioux Tribe "putting their lives on the line". Stein also stated that she believed the arrest warrants which followed are "misdirected" and that "the real criminals" were those "violating our water supplies."

Stein has admitted to spray-painting construction equipment at a construction site with her vice-presidential running mate Ajamu Baraka on Tuesday, during a protest led by the indigenous Rock Sioux Tribe. The tribe is protesting the construction of an oil pipeline as it is considered a threat to sacred sites, as well as to drinking water which is used by 17 million people.
