Danish amateur rocket builders 'Copenhagen Suborbitals' failed launching a Nexo I rocket from a mobile launch platform located off Denmark’s eastern coast on Saturday, with the rocket plummeting prematurely back into the ocean only seconds after taking off

The group’s ultimate goal was to launch a man into space in a bigger rocket called 'Spica.'

The Nexo I rocket was 5.60 metres high (18ft 4in) and made of aluminium to keep it as light as possible. The launch tested the rocket’s subsystems, thrust vectoring system and parachute descent capabilities. The technology tested on Nexo I will be used to build Spica.

The whole project has been crowdfunded and undertaken by volunteers.
