Iraq: Drone footage captures large anti-govt protest in Baghdad
Thousands of protesters gathered in central Baghdad to rally against alleged corruption in the Iraqi government and to call on Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi to form a new cabinet, Friday.
The prominent Iraqi Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr has taken the lead-role in the ongoing protests, with his supporters holding a sit-in protest on Monday outside the fortified Green Zone to exercise further pressure on the government. Sadr has called on Abadi to announce a new cabinet by Saturday that features technocrats in important positions.
Anti-government protests have been ongoing since the beginning of August in the Iraqi capital and other cities throughout the country.
