Belgium: At least 13 dead as Brussels airport rocked by lethal blasts
At least 13 people have been killed and dozens more wounded after two explosions ripped through Zaventem airport in Brussels, early on Tuesday.
The explosions occurred in the airport's departure hall, reportedly near the American Airlines check-in desk. The Belgian prosecutor has confirmed that it was a terrorist attack. No one has yet claimed responsibility for the attack however there are reports that shouts in Arabic were heard beforehand.
The attacks take place four days after the capture in Brussels of Salah Abdeslam, the main suspect in the jihadist attacks in Paris on 13 November 2015.
The airport is currently on lockdown, with rail transport stopped and incoming flights diverted to Antwerp and other locations. The metro system has been evacuated and shut down. Belgium has raised its terror threat to its highest level.
