03:04Spain: At least 13 exchange students killed in bus crash in Catalonia
At least 13 students of the European Erasmus exchange programme were killed in a bus crash in Freginals in Catalonia, Sunday, as they were returning from the Valencian 'Fallas' festivities.
The crash also injured 44 people, nine of which are in serious condition. The accident happened at 06:00 in the morning (05:00 GMT), when the bus capsized after crashing into a car at the highway AP-7. 56 people were travelling onboard the bus at the time of the crash.
Emergency services rushed to the site in order to attend the wounded. A crane was deployed at the site to help in the clearing of the wreckage, as well as other remaining debris.
According to President of the Catalan Government Carles Puigdemont, the cause of the crash is still unknown and all resources are being utilised to investigate. He went on to say that an official passenger list has not yet been released as they accuracy of the list is still unknown. The bus was part of a five bus convoy and their is a possibility that some students may have changed buses prior to the crash.
