Austria: Five Americans 'unjustly detained' in Iran released - John Kerry
US Secretary of State John Kerry confirmed that the five Americans that were, in his words, "unjustly detained" in Iran have been released, speaking at a press conference in Vienna. "They should be on their way home to their families before long," said Kerry.
He stressed that the although the negotiations were not directly linked with the Iran nuclear deal, he said that there was "no question" that "the pace and the progress of the humanitarian talks accelerated in light of the relationships forged and the diplomatic channels unlocked over the course of the nuclear talks."
Kerry also announced that US President Barack Obama will have more to say on the release of the US citizens at a press conference later.
With regard to the Iran nuclear deal, Kerry praised the outcome that has been verified by the International Atomic Energy Agency.
"Iran has honoured its commitments to alter and in fact dismantle much of its nuclear programme in compliance with the agreement we reached last July," confirmed Kerry.
