Fans of David Bowie placed candles and flowers at the foot of a mural of the pop icon in Brixton, London on Monday following the passing of one of the area's most famous sons.
David Bowie died from cancer at the age of 69, his son, film director Duncan Jones, announced on his social media accounts early on Monday. "David Bowie died peacefully today surrounded by his family after a courageous 18 month battle" with the illness, the statement reads.
Born David Robert Jones at 40 Stansfield Road, Brixton in January 1947, David Bowie attended a local primary school before his parents moved out of the area in 1953.
