
Haiti: Protests erupt after gov-backed candidate leads election polls *GRAPHIC*
Protests erupted in Port-au-Prince on Thursday after the preliminary results of Haiti's presidential elections showed government-backed candidate Jovenel Moise and former state construction chief Jude Celestin as the two front-runners.
Jovenel Moise from the Haitian Tet Kale Party (PHTK) is running first with 32.8 percent of the votes, while Jude Celestin from Ligue Alternative pour le Progres et L'Emancipation Haitienne (LAPEH) is just behind wiith 25.27 percent.
Protesters denounced the current Martelly government, burning tyres in the streets. One man from the Plateforme Pitit was shot dead during the protest.
