Around one hundred people gathered, holding pictures of those who died during the fire at the Unions House. The memorial was not the only event in Kulikovo Fields, a group of supporters of the Maidan movement attended, many dressed in combat uniforms. The police were deployed to avoid provocations.
The attack in Odessa left 42 dead, after activists opposing Maidan movement looked for refuge in the Unions House after their tent camp outside the buiiding was torched and destroyed. The building itself then caught fire in unclear circumstances, although it is known that it started in the second and third floors and quickly spread. The events were the bloodiest civil conflict in Odessa since 1918.
