Kindergarten pupils fought off the cold in the Siberian region of Krasnoyarsk by stripping down to their bathing costumes and pouring water over themselves outside, in sub-zero temperatures, Thursday. The old Siberian technique is designed to combat against colds and the flu and is unique to the region. Every morning before class, children as young as four visit the local sauna - known as a banya - to partake in the unusual practice.

The head of the kindergarten Eugene Vasetskaya believes that it's not just about preventing colds, it also affects mental attitude and energy levels because the children "enjoy a healthy lifestyle and get a positive feeling."
