Spain: See farmers burn EU flag on bonfire of peaches
Fruit and dairy farmers threw a European Union flag atop a bonfire of burning peaches outside the Government Municipality building of Lleida in western Catalonia, Friday. The protest featured hundreds of angry fruit and dairy farmers whose trade and livelihood has been severely affected by the EU decisions that led to the Russian ban on the import of their products.
Trade Unionist David Borda from the Joves Agricultors I Ramaders de Catalunya (JARC) explained that food traders in the region will not keep accepting EU dictates. His comments came following a meeting between the Lleida governor and several trade representatives of Catalonia.
The food ban includes all meat, dairy, cheese, fruit and vegetables from the EU. The hardest hit countries in the 28 member block will be Poland, Norway, Spain and the Netherlands.
