Flowers and candles began piling up outside Tina Turner's home in Zurich on Thursday, shortly after her death was announced.

Footage shows the main gate to the rock singer's house, Chateau Algonquin, covered in flowers and farewell letters. Fans could also be seen laying tributes, crying and dancing to Turner’s songs.

"I love Tina Turner. I watched all the concerts and never missed one. I love her," a mourner said.

"Tina's loss is a great loss. She is a great woman, a star," added a second.

Turner shot to fame in the 1950s as part of the 'Ike and Tina Turner Revue' and subsequently launched a successful solo career with hits including 'What’s love got to do with it’ and 'The Best’, winning her eight Grammy Awards along the way.

"With her, the world loses a music legend and role model," her spokesperson, Bernard Doherty, said in a press release.

Tina Turner died aged 83 at her home on Wednesday, after a long, unspecified illness.
