Germany: 'If you exclude women from your country, you do not have any future' - FM Baerbock at Global Women’s Forum
German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock said that excluding women from society had a tangible negative impact on a country, during a panel discussion at the Global Women’s Forum for Peace and Humanitarian Action in Berlin on Tuesday.
"What happens to a country if you're not giving women the same rights and then you expel them from work and then you expel them from universities? Your GDP is dropping by at least 20 percent; why are we having to support it with so much humanitarian aid? Because if you exclude women from your country, you do not have any future," she claimed.
Baerbock was participating in the 'Feminist Foreign Policy in Support of Local Civil Society Leaders in Fragile Contexts' session. She was joined in stage by co-founder of the African Women Leaders Network Anny Modi and founder of the Safety and Risk Mitigation Organisation in Afghanistan Horia Mosadiq.
The forum was hosted by the Federal Foreign Office and the UN Women’s Peace and Humanitarian Fund (WPHF), and gathered representatives of nearly 90 NGOs from 29 different countries.
