03:09France: 'We don't want to die at work' - Unions protest against workplace dangers in front of Paris Labour Ministry
The CGT trade union called for a rally in front of the Ministry of Labour in Paris on Friday to demand better means to prevent accidents at work on the occasion of the International Day for Safety and Health at Work.
Footage features union members rallying in front of the ministry building, under police surveillance. Some of the protesters wore T-shirts with messages such as 'We don't want to die at work', among other slogans, demanding accountability from the government and further occupational hazards prevention.
"From the age of 63, the majority of employees in the construction sector die from the various types of illnesses that result from our working conditions. I am deaf because of the pneumatic hammer and the noise in the confinement", commented a CGT trade union representative from the Vinci Ali Tolu Group.
Protesters also denounced the death of 35-year-old construction worker Guillaume, who, according to his mother, 'was buried up to his chest in 16 tons of sand' during a work accident.
Similar demonstrations are expected to take place in the next few days on the occasion of the International Workers' Day, celebrated across the world on 1 May.
