Just add water! Fountains at Peterhof Palace spring back to life to welcome summer season
The iconic fountains at the Peterhof State Museum gurgled back to life on Saturday as the popular tourist destination opened its doors to the public for the summer season.
Footage shows water flowing from the golden Samson and Grand Cascade fountains, heralding the end of the winter season. The fountains were accompanied by the 'Hymn to a Great City' by Reinhold Gliere.
According to the Peterhof press service, the museum 'has planned a large event programme that includes spring and autumn fountain shows, concerts and festivals.'
The palace, which is known as 'Russia's Versailles', was constructed in 1725 by Peter the Great. It is one of Russia’s top cultural attractions and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The summer season will last until October 15. The fountains of the Lower Park will be open to the public from 10 am until 7:45 pm.
