France: 'Macron, we are also going to squat Versailles' - Hundreds march against housing crisis in Paris

More than 300 people marched in Paris on Saturday to protest against the government's housing policies.

Footage shows protesters carrying banners such as 'Inflation, expensive housing energy mean eviction or prison' and 'Fight against the housing crisis, not against its victims', among others as they marched through the French capital.

Mobilised by the Right to Housing (DAL) association, protesters marched from Republic Square to the Ministry of Housing. The activists demanded a withdrawal of the Kasbarian-Berge bill, which is currently undergoing a second reading in the National Assembly. If passed, the law would increase sanctions against squatters and speed up procedures against tenants in absence of rent payments.

The demonstrators also demanded lower rents and utility bills, an end to power cuts and evictions without providing alternative accommodation.

Similar demonstrations took place in other French cities such as Lille, Montpellier, Nantes, Toulouse, Grenoble and Bayonne.
