A three-month-old baby girl died just meters away from the Casa Rosada Presidential Palace in Buenos Aires in the early hours of Friday morning.

Footage features police cars and a police tent in front of the Casa Rosada, while the baby's dead body remained covered.

According to Buenos Aires emergency services, the baby belonged to a homeless family who had spent the previous night sleeping in the open in Avenida Paseo Colon, near the Ministry of Economy.

Local media reported the baby's parents realised that their child had stopped breathing and approached the police officers for assistance in Plaza de Mayo. However, emergency sources informed the newspaper 'Clarin' that the federal police arrived at the location too late, and emergency services were unable to save the newborn.

The last census conducted by the INDEC National Statistics Agency in May of 2022 revealed that there are over 2,900 homeless individuals living in the streets og various regions of Argentina, with Buenos Aires City alone accounting for more than 900 of them.
