China: ‘Political decision without any conditions attached’ - Beijing appreciates Honduras joint communique
Chinese Foreign Ministry (MOFA) spokesperson Mao Ning during a press conference in Beijing on Monday praised Honduras singing joint communique with Beijing in order to build diplomatic relations.
“Honduras's decision to establish diplomatic relations with China is a political decision made on the basis of the one-China principle without any conditions attached. The Chinese side highly appreciates this,” she said.
Mao Ning continued and criticised Taiwan authorities for being used to dollar diplomacy claiming Taiwan independence to be ‘a dead end’.
She somewhere referred to the more than 100 students who enrolled in Taiwan with provided scholarships by MOFA. Mao Ning expressed her concerns about them and declared that ‘as long as they intend to transfer to the mainland [to study], China is willing to accept all of them’.
According to the Chinese Ministry of Education, 104 of the students are on MOFA scholarships, while there are no Taiwanese students studying in Honduras
A Japanese national was reportedly arrested and held in Beijing for allegedly espionage activities. Answering journalists’ questions,
Mao Ning also commented upon Japanese citizen being currently detained in Beijing on suspicion of espionage.
“All foreigners in and coming to China must abide by Chinese laws, and those who break the law must be investigated in accordance with the law. There have been similar cases of Japanese citizens have occurred frequently in recent years, and the Japanese side need to do more to ask their citizens to not engage in such activities,” she said.
Chinese MOFA spokesperson once again announced that Beijing firmly opposes ‘unprovoked attacks by US and Canada’ to smear China. She criticised both countries for ‘adhering to the Cold War mentality’.
“What the United States and Canada should do is to reflect on themselves, not to confuse right and wrong. … The Taiwan issue is China's internal affairs that involve China's sovereignty and territorial integrity, and it is not the turn of the United States and Canada to tell China what to do,” Mao Ning concluded.
