Iran and Russia National Football team's friendly match ended in a draw 1-1 at Azadi Stadium in Tehran on Thursday.

Iran national football team coach Amir Ghalenoei said that the Iranian team managed to stop Russia's playmaking by swarming the ball carrier.

“Russia was a good team but we destroyed their playmaking with the press we did and the substitution we had. We created many big chances about 4 or 5 chances and we should win the game by 2 or 3 goals," he said.

For his part, Russian Football Team Coach Valery Carpin said that his team, after FIFA ban, wanted to play regardless of the result.

"I wanted to see how we will act, how we will play against such a team. It is about the game, not about the result in general, we could lose, and maybe, maybe in the end we could even win." he said.

"But if we talk about the game, before our goal, I almost liked everything in our performance, and after the goal, I did not like anything," he added.

Maxim Mitrofanov, General Secretary of the Russian Football Union, elaborated on FIFA/UEFA ban on Russia, saying that the team is struggling to find good opponents to play with.

"It is very important to play against one of the strongest Asian teams, and we are very happy to be here in Tehran. We planned this match last year but because of the Iran National team preparing for the World Cup," he said.

Both teams scored from penalties, Anton Miranchuk scored for the Russian side at 28 minute, while Mahdi Taremi evened the match score to 1-1 at 47 minute.
