The aftermath of reported shelling in the city of Kramatorsk, Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR), was seen on Tuesday.

Footage shows heavy external damage to a number of buildings, as well as blown-out windows and debris on the ground below. Locals and workers are also seen clearing up the rubble.

Kiev-backed Governor Pavlo Kyrylenko alleged that 'one person died, at least three were injured' in a strike earlier in the day.

"The Russians fired a missile on the city centre. According to the latest reports, six apartment buildings were damaged," he wrote on his Telegram channel.

The Ukrainian General Prosecutor’s Office also reported that four people had been pulled from the wreckage, saying that one had died in hospital.

The Russian side has not commented on the claims, although its Defence Ministry has previously said that 'high-precision' strikes are carried out on key military targets and energy infrastructure, while Moscow has always strongly denied shelling civilian targets and areas..

The DPR Is one of four regions, also including the Lugansk People’s Republic, Kherson and Zaporozhye, that President Vladimir Putin agreed to allow to join the Russian Federation, signing accession documents on September 30, 2022.

According to Moscow, it followed referenda in which people living in those areas exercised their right to self-determination and requested to join Russia.

Ukraine and its international allies condemned the move, calling it an annexation of Kiev’s sovereign territory.
