
China: 'She deserves today's huge success' - Beijing fans rejoice after Michelle Yeoh's Oscar win for best actress
Chinese fans were thrilled on Monday after Michelle Yeoh, whose family is originally from Fujian, China, won the Oscar for best actress for her iconic role in 'Everything Everywhere All at Once' during the awards ceremony on Sunday night.
"Michelle Yeoh always gives me the feeling that she is a star who has lots of positive energy," said Ms Cao speaking about the actress who was born in Malaysia, and rose to fame in Hong Kong.
"As a Chinese, I think she can represent China's hope that showing China will move towards the international stage," reflected another resident Ms Hou.
Yeoh, who has been acting for about 40 years, first rose to fame in Hong Kong action films before becoming known to international audiences with the 1997 James Bond film 'Tomorrow Never Dies,' in which she played the role of a spy alongside Pierce Brosnan's 007. After roles in 'Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon,' 'Memoirs Of A Geisha' and 'Crazy Rich Asians' she landed the lead in Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert's comedy-drama.
