Mexico: Skeletal remains from colonial and pre-Hispanic eras found during excavations at Chapultepec site
A pantheon with skeletal remains from two cultures, colonial and pre-Hispanic, was found in the protected area of the first section of the Chapultepec excavation site outside Mexico City on Tuesday.
"We have found loose bones, and a few meters from here we have found a skull and three semi-complete pre-Hispanic vessels," archaeologist Maria de Lourdes Lopez Camacho said.
Up to now, 28 skeletal remains have been found though archaeologists estimate more could be found upon further excavations.
The Chapultepec Nature and Culture project is headed by the Mexico City Secretary of Culture and the capital's government who prioritize safeguarding and protecting the cultural heritage of this area.
