'It represents Italy in its entirety' - World's smallest vineyard from Reggio Emilia offers wine full of 'metaphysics'
Winegrower Tullio Masoni, an owner of allegedly the world's smallest vineyard, presented his iconic wine in Reggio Emilia on Friday, offering bottles of wine full of 'metaphysics'.
"Behind every wine, there is always a territory, the famous terroir. In my case, there is metaphysics behind it because in my wine there is an Italian story," Winegrower Tullio Masoni.
Footage features Masoni showing the Mari street where his vineyard is located and the cultivation area next to his house, which amounted to a few square metres.
However, according to him, it is not the size of the so-called terroir that determines the essence of his wine, but the 'story behind it'. It is to be read from a historical event that characterises his wine, namely a duel in 1797, when two famous doctors fought which resulted in the death of one of them. The survivor of the duel returned to the scene to wipe the blood from the street, using water from the well that in the meantime belonged to Masoni.
According to the wine maker, whose vines also grow on the roof of his house, he claimed to own the smallest vineyard in the world with his pocket-sized vineyard producing only 29 bottles of red wine a year. Each bottle cost 5,000 EUR (5,358 USD).
"The requests are so many and exceed hundreds of times what I can produce and I am almost obliged to increase the prices," Masoni explained.
