The Brazilian President, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, welcomed the German Chancellor, Olaf Scholz, in Brasilia on Monday, where they discussed bilateral relations as well as international affairs, including the war in Ukraine.

According to Lula "Brazil has no interest in passing on the ammunition so that it will not be used in the war between Ukraine and Russia. Brazil is a peaceful country."

The German chancellor highlighted the EU-Mercosur agreement (the agreement between The Southern Common Market and the European Union) saying: "President Lula and I both agree that the EU-Mercosur agreement is in the interests of both our regions and we hope to see very swift progress on this issue very soon."

Scholz's visit to Brasilia marks a rapprochement between the countries after Brazil recently re-elected Lula as president.
