Iran: Azerbaijani embassy evacuates employees following deadly shooting attack
Azerbaijani embassy’s staff, their families and the corpse of the slain chief were evacuated to Azerbaijan from Tehran's International Mehrabad Airport on Sunday, two days after the deadly attack on the embassy.
Iran's deputy Foreign Minister Ali Baqeri Kani attended the funeral ceremony and Azerbaijani Ambassador Ali Alizadeh.
According to Azerbaijani media, around 53 people, including diplomats and their family members, landed at Baku's Heydar Aliyev International Airport at 10 pm local time (6 pm GMT).
Earlier on Friday, a gunman entered Azerbaijan’s embassy in Tehran, killing chief of the embassy’s security service and injuring two security guards.
Azari President Ilham Aliyev had decided to evacuate the embassy staff, explaining the decision with a lack of 'hope and confidence.'
The assailant was arrested later, while the Capital's police cheif Hossein Rahimi said that a preliminary investigation pointed to 'personal and family-related problems'.
