Germany: Next decades 'not about shaping security with Russia' but 'against Russia' - Foreign Ministry Secretary
State Secretary at Germany's Foreign Ministry Tobias Lindner said that the next decades would not be about shaping security with Russia' but 'against Russia,' speaking during the Handelsblatt Security and Defense Conference 2023 in Berlin on Tuesday.
"To be very clear, there is no going back to the status quo when we talk about security," Lindner said. "For the foreseeable future, and we can talk about a period of decades, it will not be about somehow shaping security with Russia, but being able to shape security in Europe from Russia, one could also say against Russia," he added.
Lindner also discussed the decision on Leopard tank supplies to Ukraine, saying that will be made in the Chancellor's Office, speaking hours before media outlets reports saying that Berlin had decided to send Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine.
On Finland and Sweden's Nato membership, The secretary said that he was 'much more optimistic than some media reports' adding that he expected this to happen this year.
