Russia: Russian Armed Forces and volunteer assault troops liberate Krasnopolie village - Konashenkov

Defence Ministry spokesperson Igor Konashenkov claimed that Russian forces had taken control of Krasnopolie village in the Donetsk People’s Republic, during his daily briefing in Moscow on Monday.

"In Donetsk direction, volunteers of assault detachments, supported by Operational-Tactical and Army Aviation, Missile Troops and Artillery of the Southern Military District, have liberated Krasnopolie in Donetsk People's Republic," he reported.

Meanwhile, the Ukrainian Defence Ministry stated on Monday that "in the Bakhmut direction, 21 settlements were exposed to (gun)fire, including Verkhnekamenske, Krasnopolye (Krasnopolie), Zheleznoe, Bilohorivka, Krasnaya Hora, Bakhmut, Kurdyumivka and Majorsk of Donetsk Region".

Moscow launched the military offensive in Ukraine in late February 2022 after recognising the independence of the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics (DPR and LPR), claiming that Kiev had failed to guarantee their special status under the 2014 Minsk Agreements, and urging Ukraine to declare itself officially neutral and give assurances that it would never join NATO.

Kiev denounced the Russian action as an invasion. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky imposed martial law throughout the country, announcing a general mobilisation, while the EU and US imposed several rounds of sanctions on Moscow.
