Morocco: Lawmakers denounce European Parliament's criticism of press freedom
The Moroccan Parliament held a session in Rabat on Monday to go over the European Parliament's criticism of press freedom in the country.
During the meeting, parliamentarians unanimously agreed to condemn the resolution from the European Parliament, further claiming that they would reconsider their ties to the organisation.
"We are a sovereign country and totally capable of defending our country and enforcing the right regulations because we are a state of law. However, we totally reject foreign dictations and blackmail, be it in the economic, social, legal, or political fields," Abdallah Bouanou, the head of the parliamentary group for the Justice and Development Party, said after the session.
Morocco and the European Union (EU) have been linked since 1996 by an association agreement that covers close economic and commercial relations, particularly in the fields of agriculture and fishing.
