Pakistan: Power blackout paralyses business and households in Karachi
A power outage caused shop closures and high workloads for emergency services in Karachi on Monday.
"Businesses were already affected since this government took charge and power outage has made it absolutely difficult to run," said worker Javed Baloch.
Footage shows busy city centre streets among which closed or non-lighted shops could be seen. Some shopkeepers were trying to keep business going with fuel-powered electricity generators. In offices of the 24-hour emergency assistance EDHI, workers took calls and arranged for help.
"Even when people call on 115 Emergency Rescue Serves, it reminds closed," said EDHI volunteer Habib Ullah.
According to local media, nearly 220 million people in Pakistan found themselves without power on Monday after a nationwide blackout.
