Argentina: Thousands of dead fish wash up in lagoon as heatwave hits Buenos Aires
Thousands of fish were found dead in the Alberti natural lagoon on Sunday, after a heatwave hit Buenos Aires.
Footage shows piles of fish washed up along the shores, with locals gathering to collect those still edible to take home for their dinner.
"We came yesterday and we found this mess. Yesterday I took a lot and distributed it to all the neighbours. Now, these are for me,” explained Gustavo Corvalan, one resident of the area.
According to local authorities, around 20 tonnes of fish were lost due to the extreme weather that hit the province. Parts of the country have hit 40 degrees Celsius (104 degrees Fahrenheit) in recent weeks.
