Russian Armed Forces and volunteer assault detachments 'liberated Kleshcheevka in DPR and Lobkovoye in Zaporozhye Region', Moscow's Defence Ministry spokesperson Igor Konashenkov claimed during a briefing on Friday.

"In the Donetsk direction, volunteers from assault detachments, supported by Operational-Tactical and Army Aviation, Missile Troops and Artillery of the Southern Military District, have liberated Kleshcheyevka in the Donetsk People's Republic," Konashenkov said.

The DefMin spokesperson also noted that 'successful offensive operations of units from the Eastern Military District have resulted in the liberation' of the Lobkovoye settlement in the Zaporozhye Region.

In contrast, the daily evening report of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defence claimed that 'the enemy is carrying out offensives in Bakhmut, Avdeevka and the Zaporozhye direction'.

"On the Bakhmut direction, Verkhnekamenskoye, Spornoe, Belogorovka, Rozdolovka, Soledar, Bakhmut, Chasov Yar, Kleshcheevka, Belaya Gora, Severnoe, Zheleznoe and Mayorsk of Donetsk Region were hit by shelling," the department said.

Moscow launched a military offensive in Ukraine in late February 2022 after recognising the independence of the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics, claiming that Kiev had failed to guarantee their special status under the 2014 Minsk Agreements, and urging Ukraine to declare itself officially neutral and give assurances that it would never join NATO.

Kiev denounced the Russian action as an invasion. Zelensky imposed martial law throughout the country, announcing a general mobilisation, while the EU and US imposed several rounds of sanctions on Moscow.
