Iraqi football fans took to the streets of Baghdad on Thursday with thousands gathering in Tahrir Square celebrating national team’s victory in the 25th Arabian Gulf Cup

Footage shows fans celebrating with ceremonial marches through the roads and major commercial areas as fireworks were launched into the sky above the capital.

“We congratulate the Iraqi people on this victory of the Iraqi team over its Omani counterpart in the final of the Gulf Cup. Today, the joy is indescribable, because we need this joy and to make this people happy, who have suffered from pressures in all periods and times, especially during this period,” hared a local football fan Ahmed Fakher.

The Iraqi team won the Arabian Gulf Football Cup in its 25th edition in Basra after defeating its Omani counterpart (3-2) in the final. The Iraqi team won the title for the fourth time in their history, having won the title in 1979, 1984 and 1988.
