Shoigu holds meeting on increasing military manpower to 1.5 million
Russian Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu said that Russian President Vladimir Putin 'has decided to increase the size of the Armed Forces to 1.5 million troops' at a meeting with commanders of the Russian Armed Forces on Tuesday.
"Ensuring the military security of the state and protecting the new subjects and critical facilities of the Russian Federation is only possible by strengthening the key structures and components of the Armed Forces," claimed Shoigu.
The head of the Russian Defence Ministry also noted that along with the increase of the Russian Armed Forces, it would be necessary to ensure the supply of weapons, military and special equipment and another materiel.
"Particular attention needs to be paid to manning the troops with contract servicemen, ensuring the timely supply of military special equipment and other materiel, increasing the number of training ranges in military districts and territories of the new entities of the Russian Federation, and increasing the volume of specialist training in the training centres of the Armed Forces in accordance with the increased demand of the troops," he added.
The meeting was reportedly attended by the Russian deputy defence minister, the commanders-in-chief of the Russian Armed Forces’ services and the commanders in charge of the Russian president's decision implementation.
