Residents of Kali Vrisi wore traditional goat costumes and paraded through the streets of the city for the annual 'Babougera' festival on Sunday, in honour of Greek God of fertility, wine and pleasure, Dionysus.

"[They are] events that we got from our grandparents and we continue with them, the well-known Babougera, which belong to the ancient god Dionysus cult, but have come to our era helping us avoid daily life reality and having fun and feast," explained cultural club secretary Dimitris Sidos.

Footage features the Babougera - or followers of Dionysus - beating drums, playing musical instruments, and performing traditional dances, as well as sharing food and wine.

One local was chosen to play the traditional part of the 'bride', while costumes also features bells, which Sidos said were to "wake up nature and try to exorcise the devil for the New Year."

The three day festival in the region of Drama took place between January 6-8.
