Move over Rudolph! Thailand’s elephants bring gifts and festive joy to Ayutthaya school
While Santa and his reindeer might be the best-known gift-givers of the holiday season, it was a herd of elephants that brought some festive spirt to the children at the Jirasaat Wittaya school in Ayutthaya, as seen in footage on Friday.
The animals are seen dressed in traditional red and white cloaks, parading through the streets, before passing out presents, dancing and entertaining the youngsters.
"I think it is a fantastic celebration for the children," said Alex, a teacher from England. "We had this in years past, but it's been COVID-affected. But now; we are back to full normal."
"All the elephants are coming and everything. Full celebration. Santa coming, giving out presents, candy, and balloons. I think is really great for the kids to experience this through the English language. And they look like they are having a lot of fun," he continued.
The children were also seen showing off their artwork and singing, with many clearly enjoying the meet-and-greet with the elephants.
