Brazil: Fans stunned after surprise loss to Cameroon in final group stage match

December 2, 2022 at 21:41 GMT +00:00 · Published

Thousands of Brazilian football supporters gathered at a fan zone in Sao Paulo on Friday, to watch their final group stage match against Cameroon.

The five-time champions went into the game full of confidence, having never been defeated by an African nation in a World Cup match.

That enthusiasm was misplaced however, as Cameroon’s Vincent Aboubakar scored with a glorious header in stoppage time.

The bitter disappointment was plain to see amongst the fans in Sao Paulo, who were seen with their heads in their hands.

Cameroon’s victory might be one of the biggest shocks in World Cup history, but sadly it wasn’t enough to see them through to the next stage of the tournament.

Despite the embarrassment of defeat, Brazil will move on to the round of 16 after topping Group G. They will face South Korea in their next outing on Monday.
