Authorities of Guangzhou have placed the city's most densely populated district under lockdown in an attempt to curb a major COVID-19 outbreak.

Public transport was suspended and residential blocks faced tight restrictions, with red barriers seen in the area. Baiyun district bus and metro stations were closed, while the Guangzhou Railway Station was almost empty.

The city's authorities were also building Tianhe temporary hospital, as seen in drone footage. It will cover an area of 81,000 square meters and contain 7,000 beds for patients under quarantine.

The city has recorded around 1,810 cases of COVID-19 in the last 24 hours.
