
Greece: Coast guard rescues boat carrying 500 migrants in Crete
The Greek coast guard rescued hundreds of migrants on a fishing boat after they sent distress signals while drifting off the coast of Crete on Tuesday.
A frigate, tanker and two cargo ships helped to tow the rusty fishing boat carrying roughly 500 migrants to the port of Palaiochora in southern Crete according to the Coast Guard.
It has not yet been confirmed where the migrant boat sailed from and which nationalities were on board.
